Born out of the idea that St Ives holds a little bit of magic within it’s winding streets, coastal views, art history and amazing light…
…and that sharing time with a group of photographers, balanced with chance for some solitude and plenty of sea air, fills our cup a little bit more and that only happens when we make time and space for it. And so,“To the Lighthouse” photography retreat came to life.
We’d love to share it with you.
Pull up a chair at our table in the beachside cottage overlooking the beach to St Ives Bay. There’s a warm hello for you, and of course some scones with cream and jam, and as much tea as you can drink.
Breathe in the sea air.
Come with us on a coastal walk with your camera and enjoy playing with the amazing light the town is famous for. Explore the back streets of St Ives, get up for a dawn adventure to find the sunrise, learn how to photograph the sky at night and make some new friends.
Take some time away from your busy day-to day life, pack a camera (or two!), your favourite book, maybe a journal and a playlist for the journey…make space to connect with the landscape of Cornwall, give you creative soul a boost, meet like minded folk and inspire your photography work.
Make mindful images that come from the heart.
Our welcome dinner and introductions session on the first evening will help you set your own intentions and your ‘why’ for the weekend. This will make the weekend personal to each of us, making sure we get what we need from our time away.
The unique light of St Ives along with the buildings that speak from the past, their rolling rooftops and surrounding landscape and sea have inspired generations of artists and hold a rich art history. St Ives was a central hub for artists during the mid 20th century, and we will spend some time looking at these works and their stories to inspire our own.
This weekend is about connection, exploration and capturing a sense of place. You can join in with all of our activities, or you are welcome to take time out to relax in and around the house and adjoining private beach. We often rush through our day to day routines and can end up feeling our creatives souls need a bit of attention and so this is an opportunity to meet other like minded folk and dedicate some time to explore with your camera and make images from the heart.
There’s no entry level required - maybe you need time out from busy established wedding or family photography business, maybe you miss having a team of colleagues to interact and bounce off being a self employed photographer, maybe you’re just getting started and you are living and breathing all things photo, maybe you just want to shoot something new.
